Job Description - Senior Networking Engineer

Summary
This position provides both engineering pre-sales and technical leadership to PBM’s networking practice. PBM’s core networking practice, based primarily on Cisco technologies, is focused on planning, designing, implementing, and managing complex networking and data center solutions for our clients.

Required Technical and Work Experience

  • 8+ years hands on experience planning, designing, and implementing Cisco’s product line, with a focus on route/switch and security technology
  • Extensive hands on experience with Cisco routers and switches (2900 routers, 3900 routers, 7200 routers, Catalyst 2960, 3560, 3750, 4500 and 6500 switches, and Nexus switches)
  • Experience with Cisco security technologies such as firewalls (ASA) and ACS
  • Experience designing and implementing complex data center, campus, and multi-site networks, including core, distribution, access, and edge modules, and designing and implementing multi-site WANs
  • Experience gathering customer requirements, whiteboarding/presenting solutions, developing a Bill of Materials (BOM) and preparing project Statements of Work (SOWs)
  • Expertise using Cisco tools to develop a project Bill of Materials, including proper software licensing
  • Expertise with routing and other protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, MPLS, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Desired Technical and Work Experience

  • Consulting experience. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years experience with a technology vendor or systems integrator selling, designing, and implementing Cisco voice systems and solutions
  • F5 Experience
  • Riverbed Experience
  • Experience with Cisco Unified Communications technology (Communications Manager, Unity, voice gateways, etc)
  • Experience with Cisco UCS (Unified Computing System)

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a pre-sales engineer for PBM’s networking practice
  • Work with sales team to develop opportunities with new and existing clients
  • Lead technical sessions with clients to discover requirements and develop solutions
  • Prepare project proposals including Bill of Materials, Engineering Professional Services Estimate, and Statement of Work
  • Present solutions to clients
  • Serve as a “hands on” post-sales implementation engineer implementing and supporting Cisco networking projects
  • Serve as engineering lead and senior technical resource on implementation projects, providing guidance to PBM’s engineering team to ensure successful project delivery
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers
  • Maintain and develop relationships with clients and vendor partners such as Cisco
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies
  • Maintain technical certifications as required

Education/Certifications

  • CCNP/CCDA required
  • CCIE (route/switch, Unified Communications, or security) strongly preferred
  • Four-year degree preferred
  • Hands-on experience required
